BEST ADVICE ANYONE CAN GIVE YOU
Remember the primary song, “Follow the Prophet”? That is the best advice you can get, no matter how far and wide you may look. The full pamphlet that was published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2007 can be found at http://www.providentliving.org/. Click on the family home storage link.
You will find 4 links:
1. Three Month Supply
2. Drinking Water
3. Financial Reserve
4. Longer-Term Supply
Please follow this counsel that has come from our prophet, the mouth piece for our loving Heavenly Father. I have experienced the comfort and peace that comes from following this counsel. It has served my family well, as a child and as a wife and mother. I know that blessings have been ours when our minds are freed from temporal concerns. If you are prayerfully asking for guidance, you will find the “deals” and opportunities that will enable you to do this gradually and without taxing your resources.
So, let’s get started! Go to the following website: http://www.sistersavings.net/ . There is a great link: helpful hints. You will find a printable menu planner and shopping list. They’re simple and to the point. Sit your family down and follow the pointers right there, have some fun … Listen to your family … if they are involved, they will become your best help and support in this goal! Check this site for sales in AZ grocery stores each week.
As you gather these foods that you eat all the time, go on the internet sites that let you type in the ingredients you have and see what else you can do with them. You will be pleasantly surprised. By three, children can help you in the prep, let them, safely. Yes, it will take longer, make a bigger mess, but they will want to eat what they help “cook”.
When you are ready to start the longer term storage items, really involve your family. My kids have some great stories about the period of our family years when we were “rotating our food storage”. They (stories) get better each year and give me some pretty good laughs.
My family of five ate 6-10 loaves of bread a week. One day on lark, my daughter got one scoop out each of bucket of grain and beans to grind up for our bread. I added additional gluten flour to help it hold together and made the best bread we had ever had. Unfortunately, I didn’t write it down and we have never been able to duplicate it. So write as you experiment!
As you start adding these foods to your diet, you will find that money is saved and they help keep your kids full, since they are hardier.
